Studying music therapy has enabled me to become more aware of my own feelings and to understand the feelings of others. It encourages gentleness and listening without judgment, while also fostering an understanding of the use of musical elements and the ability to use music appropriately. Furthermore, it allows for the reception of various emotions through music and enhances enjoyment in musical activities.
I enjoyed making friends, even though we come from different backgrounds. However, when we came together during the intensive period to play music, it was truly special. It brings me joy to know that I can help others by applying the knowledge of music therapy and my music experience.
I enjoyed the experience I gained from Chulalongkorn Hospital the most. I worked with elderly clients; through music therapy, my clients could receive sensory stimulation. I could help my clients reminisce and evoke precious memories. I particularly enjoyed singing oldie songs with them, songs suitable for this group of clients, which my family also often listens to.
I had the opportunity to intern with a group of children with autism, and I believe that experience helped me understand this group of children better, as well as realize that not every therapy session improves consistently. There are numerous factors at play before the child even enters the treatment room, such as changes in medication, nightmares, or general discontent, which are beyond our control. However, we can cultivate a therapeutic relationship, which can significantly enhance the effectiveness of therapy. As children gradually develop trust and feel more comfortable expressing themselves, this relationship becomes a crucial component of successful therapy.
Now I’m in Canada. To become a music therapist here, one must pass an exam administered by CATM before pursuing this career. Currently, I’m in the process of finding a supervisor and gaining experience in order to be eligible to take the exam.
I love being able to use my talent in music and clinical experience in music therapy to help others. On the other hand, these experiences are meaningful for me and allow me to pursue what I love!
